Ross Hill Wines

Australia’s 1st “Climate Active” Certified Carbon Neutral Winery

Ross Hill Wines has long been committed to sustainability and has introduced measures to reduce the company’s carbon footprint, such as efficient use of operational resources, decreasing tractor hours and installing solar power. After six years of hard work, dedication and determination, Ross Hill Wines was recognised in 2016 as the only wine company, registered with the Australian Federal Government as an NCOS certified carbon neutral winery. This has been superceded by the Climate Active Program.

As the wines produced here are recognised as carbon neutral too, when you’re next enjoying a sublime glass of Ross Hill wine you are also doing your bit for the environment – and that’s got to be a feeling that washes down well!

Wallace Lane Winery
In 2008, the Wallace Lane Winery was established in an old apple packing shed on Mount Canobolas. The winery also had ample space for the custom-designed equipment and technology best suited for premium wine making methods.

Hard work, passion and dedication continue to be the key themes of Ross Hill, with the end goal remaining to produce exceptional quality and elegantly refined, cool-climate wines. Ross Hill Wines has been the proud recipient of an exceptional rating of Five Red Stars from James Halliday’s Wine Companion since 2012, and was named amongst the “Best of the Best” in 2021 for holding this rating for 10 years in a row!

Long Lunches at Ross Hill
The winery plays host to two superb Long Lunch functions throughout the year in spring and autumn. On these celebratory days up to 180 guests enjoy a feast prepared by renowned chefs. The menu is a perfect pairing of scrumptious food with generous splashes of mouth-watering Ross Hill wine.

Carbon Neutral Wines
“Ross Hill has taken extensive, well planned measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions caused by our business, and to minimise our impact on our fragile environment. With the NCOS certification, our consumers and supply chains can trust our wines to be genuinely carbon neutral.”
James Robson, Ross Hill Wines

Following a dedicated, six-year-long program, Ross Hill Wines met its main environmental sustainability goal in 2016 of producing carbon neutral wines. As such, Ross Hill Wines was the first wine company to be registered with the Australian Federal Government as an NCOS certified carbon neutral winery.

What does this mean? Carbon neutrality is achieved when a company or product’s net greenhouse gas emissions are equal to zero. Attaining Government certification involves more than just buying carbon credits – it’s about reducing a company’s carbon footprint and then offsetting any emissions that can’t be reduced. Ross Hill is one of only 37 Climate Active certified businesses selling carbon neutral products in Australia.

Ross Hill Wines is leading the way by not only having the wine business itself certified but by having the actual wine they produce as certified carbon neutral as well. So, when you’re enjoying a Ross Hill wine you are actually doing your bit for the environment. And that’s got to be a great feeling to wash down with a glass of wine!

Ross Hill has long prided itself on a solid environmental policy and has carefully approached all aspects of its wine production process by adopting sustainable principles – from the vineyard to the hands-on winemaking procedures practiced.
