Blue Mountains Portraits 2021
Blue Mountains City Art Gallery, Cultural Centre, 30 Parke Street, Katoomba. Blue Mountains Portraits is the Cultural Centre’s annual celebration of the local community and its diverse members. The exhibiting artists portray the unique people that make up the cultural fabric of the Blue Mountains and tell the stories behind the person. Over forty artworks in a broad range of styles and media such as painting, photography, drawing, collage and mixed media will be exhibited together with a selection of local students’ work. Gary Shinfield: Landscapes of Anxiety
Blue Mountains City Art Gallery, Cultural Centre, 30 Parke Street, Katoomba. In the exhibition Landscapes of Anxiety artist Gary Shinfield explores ideas based around the three geographical forms that dominate the landscape of the Blue Mountains- the plateau, the escarpment and the valley. These landforms are reinterpreted as formal, subjective and metaphoric images carrying the memory of recent and future events; drought, fires, flooding and human presence. KIDS CRE8: Art After School
Blue Mountains City Art Gallery, Cultural Centre, 30 Parke Street, Katoomba. Exercise your kids inquisitive minds and unlock creative problem solving skills in our KIDS CRE8 art workshops, designed to nourish creativity in a fun and relaxed space. Each workshop will encourage kids to follow a creative process to develop their own, unique style across a range of art materials. Kids will learn about designers and artists as well as visit the gallery to take inspiration from current exhibitions. Ages 8-12 years. Time: Wednesday (5 week term), 3.30pm-5pm. The People We Are

This exhibition The People We Are, presents a selection of figurative, landscape and portrait works by emerging artists, Emily Lane, Sarah Frost and Mary Muss. Beyond the Horizon
Malcolm Nash – Braemar House & Gallery, 104 Macquarie Road, Springwood. Malcolm Nash is a mixed media artist who loves exploring the landscape and the world around him. Nash’s creative work includes drawing, animation, painting, printmaking and photography. Beyond the Horizon examines the landscape as well as the world beyond what the artist sees. Nash explores a diverse range of imagery, many in black and white, from the autobiographical with scenes from the artist’s own home to landscapes which he has experienced. Into the Fold
Rachaeldaisy Dodd – Braemar House & Gallery, 104 Macquarie Road, Springwood. Into the Fold looks at finding harmony between old and new through the art of quilt-making. Traditional techniques of fabric manipulation are studied and reinterpreted in a modern context. Concentric circles of folded fabric, gathered puffs, stitched details, repetitive geometry and balanced asymmetry all explore, develop, and expand the boundaries, but always with a nod to the roots of the craft. Rachael Brady & The Moonshine Special

One of the Blue Mountains’ most talented singers, Brady is a frontwoman like few others: a vocal and emotional powerhouse whose intimate entanglement with each tale of love, lust or woe is captivatingly real.  Be held captive by tales of train wrecks, funereal lullabies and love gone, gone, gone as they offer up an assemblage of nostalgia-laden, rockabilly, alt-country-noir originals in addition to a handful of obscure covers from the 20s to the 50s that pay homage to the roots of their original sound – tunes from artists like Johnny Cash, Patsy Cline and the Kirby Sisters. Mark Wilkinson
Baroque Room, 15 Katoomba Street, Katoomba (entry via Carrington Hotel driveway). Mark Wilkinson announces, ‘Hand Picked, Vol. 3’, the newest instalment in his much-loved acoustic series. Available worldwide from Friday February 12th, it continues the tradition of showcasing his songs laid bare, in their most raw and honest form. To celebrate the release Mark will be returning to the road, crossing open borders after a long absence, sharing songs from the new album along with many other favourites. Stephen Fisher-King’s American Pie: The Story

Six Foot Track Marathon
The Six Foot Track is a 45km trail stretching across the Blue Mountains from The Explorer’s Marked Tree near Katoomba to Jenolan Caves. The marathon, which started in 1984, follows the length of the entire trail and attracts over 850 entrants each year. Time: Various wave starts. 1001: Circled – full circle

Braemar House & Gallery, 104 Macquarie Road, Springwood. This exhibition showcases works from artist Kerrey Williams’ creative journey, to create an artwork a day, sometimes more. Starting with an A5 visual diary and pencil, Kerrey began each work by drawing a circle with a diameter of 12cm. Using a black fineliner pen, each circle was then filled with a drawing, pattern or design, taking inspiration from events, experiences and things seen during the day or from imagination. After two years, Kerrey had created 830 circle drawings. Then 1000. Then just one more. The 1001st freehand circle drawing was drawn in the 16th book.

Bandaluzia Flamenco

Acclaimed modern flamenco ensemble Bandaluzia led by ARIA nominated flamenco guitarist Damian Wright present a spectacular new show that showcases contemporary flamenco dance and music whilst displaying the essential characteristics of the flamenco tradition. Eishan Ensemble

Led by acclaimed Persian-Australian tar player and composer, Hamed Sadeghi, Eishan Ensemble draws on contemporary and classical music traditions of both East and West. Eishan’s repertoire consists predominantly of Sadeghi’s original compositions with diverse improvisatory idioms featured powerfully, in what is variously described as “Persian chamber jazz” and “Middle-Eastern jazz fusion”.  Featuring Michael Avgenicos on saxophone, Maximillian Alduca on double bass and Adem Yilmaz on percussions.  Time: 8pm.
